Services

Every charity I work with is different, but the help you need usually falls into one of three categories. Here’s how I package things up, so you can find the fit that suits you best and we can skip straight to the good bit: talking about your words.

A single piece

For when one thing needs an expert pair of hands – and soon.

Sometimes it’s a case study that won’t behave, an appeal letter that needs to land differently, copy for a web page that’s been sitting in Google Docs for three months, or a report that needs a final proofread before it’s published. One deliverable, one fixed price, one safe pair of hands.

I’ll write it, rescue it, or polish it – whichever it needs – and return it ready to go. Turnaround is usually a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on length and how busy we both are.

A project partner

For when something substantial is coming and you need someone alongside you from brief to sign-off.

Annual reports. Impact reports. Fundraising appeals across multiple channels. Your supporter magazine. Website refreshes. The kind of project that has several moving parts, more than one stakeholder, and a deadline that’s closer than anyone would like.

I’ll work with you from the initial brief through to the final version, writing what needs writing, editing what needs editing, proofreading what needs proofreading (you don’t have to know which is which; that’s my job). You get one point of contact for the words, one fixed project fee, and one less thing to worry about.

Your part-time editor

For when you don’t have a full-time editor, but really wish you did.

For a set number of days each month I become part of your team: learning your brand voice, your style guide, your audience and your tone-of-voice preferences until looking after your words is second nature. A monthly magazine, scripts for podcasts or video voiceovers, web copy updates, appeals, the occasional emergency – whatever needs writing or editing lands on my desk, and you get it back polished, on brief, and on time.

You get the depth of an in-house hire without the salary, pension, holiday cover or recruitment headache. The minimum commitment is three months, because it takes a few weeks before I’m fully up to speed and can be of most use to you. Most clients stay considerably longer.

Not sure which one fits?

Drop me a line and tell me what’s on your desk. I’ll either point you to the right tier, or tell you honestly that you need someone else – which happens too, and saves us both time. If needed, I can recommend some of my lovely colleagues. But let’s start with a chat!
